ABOUT

Why Research for Social Impact Exists

In 2021, amid a period of significant global change, I reflected on my role in the field of evaluation and the kind of work I wanted to advance. I envisioned a practice grounded in integrity, care, and authentic partnership- work that supports better outcomes for students, educators, and communities.

I founded Research for Social Impact (RSI) to pursue projects with purpose and meaning, particularly those focused on creating lasting social impact, while building a practice that values learning, sustainability, and wellbeing. Today, I partner with education institutions, nonprofits, and foundations that care deeply about their mission and want their data to reflect, strengthen, and advance that work. At my core, I believe data should do more than fulfill reporting requirements. It should spark reflection, guide learning, and support decisions that truly matter.

Where Personal Story Meets Professional Practice

I support programs and projects that seek to create positive social impact within their communities. The RSI logo features the peacock, the national bird of India and a symbol deeply rooted in the country’s rich cultural history, which reflects my personal background. The peacock’s vibrant colors and graceful presence embody the care, creativity, and intentionality that guide my approach to evaluative work with clients and collaborators.

About Me

Dr. Namrata Patel

Hi, I'm Namrata! I am the Founder and Principal Researcher at RSI. Since beginning my career in 2008, I have partnered with Pre-K–12 schools, postsecondary institutions, nonprofits, and foundations to support efforts to strengthen programs and systems that serve students, educators, and communities. Through this work, I have seen firsthand the power of research and evaluation when it is grounded in authentic partnership, when it is collaborative, responsive, and focused on learning, rather than compliance.

My educational background includes a Ph.D., M.A., and B.A. in Psychology, as well as formal training in evaluation practices. My professional background includes roles at research and evaluation firms as well as a grant-making organization. In addition to leading RSI, I teach Research Methods in Psychology at a California community college. More details are available on my LinkedIn profile.

Outside of my professional work, I enjoy reading fiction, cooking, and having adventures with my husband and daughter.

My Collaborative Partners

I believe in the power of thoughtful collaboration. I partner with experts in my network of researchers and evaluators so I can best meet the needs of my clients. Some of my partners include:
